If you do not turn in a final portfolio, your grade will reduce drastically.

Personal Logo and Business Card

Create your own business card to submit with your website link.

Create a new 3.5" x 2" document with 300 resolution. Look at some examples of clever business cards for ideas. Creating a custom, personal logo will set you apart and make you look professional.

You must submit a WORD document with your website link and personal business card image by Tuesday, May 17th.

Turn in your magazine cover in the Photo II folder.

Create your account and begin putting your professional site together.

TIPS for professional sites:
- You want the site to look CLEAN. No animated or bright, distracting backgrounds.
- You want all your pages to match. Different themes and fonts on each page can look random, disorganized, or chaotic
- Keep fonts simple. Crazy fonts can look juvenile/immature.
- Show ONLY YOUR BEST. Never show your poor work just to fill a space. Quality over quantity.

YES, You may have figured out your own easier way of doing it, BUT I want you to try this method because it has you learning a new tool called a "clipping mask", which you have never used.

You must use all your own photos. You will need 1 simple portrait and 1 natural backdrop. You want your natural backdrop to be kind of "busy" like a bush or tree bark. Look at the examples to see what I mean.

You guys will try to wrap up your Surrealism photographs today (remember, you're advanced, working at a more efficient rate of one piece per week!) and begin a double exposure tutorial on Monday.

You will start concentration piece #4, which will be due Friday.
Take advantage of the puddles outside for interesting reflection shots, if this pertains to your concentration theme. Think about your theme and how it could be used in a reflection. You can get some really interesting results!

Catching Ghosts

This week you will be doing double exposure ghost images along with photo I. Since we did not do this activity last year, you can complete it along with Photo I. For now, search "double exposure ghosts" to get an idea of what we will be doing.

You should be working on your first concentration piece. This should be a professional quality depiction of your concentration idea. It should look deliberate, planned, and well edited. By Friday, you will submit your concentration piece, as well as a contact sheet showing me that you took several photoshoots and tried multiple ideas.

Here are some past examples of concentration quality work:

 Concentration for pic 1 was Black and white portraits, Pic 2 was macro nature, pic 3 water and reflections, 4 skateboarding, 5 macro portraits/people.

Make sure your magazine article is in the turn-in folder today.
Make sure your 10 questions from last Tuesday are turned in to the folder. Also, check that your TED Talks paper is in the folder and that it includes your concentration decision at the bottom.

Today you will begin working on your first concentration photos. You should plan on taking a LOT of photos, and selecting from only the BEST.

Magazine article

Open the document on the M:/ about creating a magazine article on portraits.
Read this document carefully, as you will be creating an article using the information you found Monday-Tuesday.
I have a timetable listed for you- you have already completed days 1 and 2, so you will start on day 3, deciding what information to focus on and what images you would need to illustrate your points.

Today you will be continuing your portrait research. I'd like you to answer a few specific questions regarding portrait work: remember to use the Internet, but write everything in your own words and  always check several sites to make sure you're getting good information. You can do this in WORD.

1. What are the best lighting conditions for a portrait?
2. What are good background ideas for portraits? What backgrounds can you think of that you have HERE?
3. What are good angles to use when shooting portraits? Are certain angles less flattering?
4. What are some good poses, or poses you particularly like? Provide images below of examples you plan to try.
5. What does pricing look like in this area? See if you can find pricing information on either craigslist or local photographer sites. List at least 3.
6. What would you charge? By the hour, by the pose? How much for a senior portrait session vs. for a wedding?
7. Are there any special tips or considerations when taking portraits of babies and children?
8. Do you prefer the drama of black and white in a portrait, or the pop of color?
9. Look up the work of 2 different famous portrait photographers: Annie Leibovitz and David La Chappelle. Which do you personally prefer. Why?
10. What are the similarities and differences in their style? Do a quick compare and contrast of their styles.

 Good morning! Today will begin research on a magazine article that will be about taking portraits (that is, pictures of people! This is where you make $$$).  I would like you to research as many tips and tricks for taking portraits as you can. This should include poses, ways to make your model look better, ways to make your model more comfortable, ways to compose your model in the light, etc. I want to see a list  of your findings tomorrow, whether it's written or in Word.

Today you will:

1. Finish the TED talks videos and worksheet from yesterday.

2. Copy/paste your concentration choice brainstorming notes (at least 3 things) into the bottom of the TED Talks worksheet.

3. Write 1 paragraph on your ultimate concentration choice. I want you to include: a detailed description of the type of photographs you intend to take (remember, you don't just pick something generic, like "black and white portraits". I want something more detailed, like "High contrast black and white portraits suggesting rebellion, inspired by the 80's punk scene.")
Include your inspiration or why you picked this topic. Include how you intend to make this happen- where will you get models/objects/etc? What photoshop editing do you intend to do, if any? Add this paragraph on the very bottom of the TED talks worksheet.

Open the Photo II folder and find the folder titled TED Talks.
Save a copy of the worksheet to your folder.

You will be watching each of these videos in order and reflecting a little bit on what you saw.

These videos are inspiring and might give you some ideas about your concentration by seeing how other artists work!

Welcome back, Photo II!

This semester, you will be picking ONE THEME or "concentration" which you will work on for the rest of the year, building a cohesive portfolio. It is a hard decision to make! I have put together a whole page of resources so you can explore some options.

Open "semester2 concentration ideas.doc" on the Miss E Photo II folder. Go through each step, sifting through all these websites and ideas, until you reach step 6, where you present me 3 ideas you like, and why you think they would be good for you to work on.
